A growing sector and the demand for differentiation

Guests
In 2023, there were 30,028,890 guests registered in tourist accommodation, an increase from 26,519,720 guests in 2022.
Hotels
According to data from the consultancy firm Neoturis provided to the online newspaper ECO, 150 hotels will open by 2026, with Portugal already surpassing France and Spain in terms of the number of rooms per square metre.


Destinations
Although Lisbon and the Algarve lead the way in terms of the number of new establishments, with 43 and 22 respectively, the Alentejo and Centro regions, with 16 and 12 respectively, are gaining some prominence on the national scene.
Revenue
Revenues in the sector have also followed this growth trend, with the hotel industry expected to earn 20% more in 2023 than in the previous year.
